Dates, times, and even location are now confirmed for the next bootcamp. It’ll be Tuesdays, from 3-5pm, August 20-September 24 at Code for America. I’m going to announce it tomorrow, but if you’d like to reserve a slot before then, let me know. Thanks!
I’ll spread the word. Would be really helpful to have one-liners from the participants about why they would recommend it to others and/or what they personally “got out” of bootcamp.
Missed seeing all of you this week.
I got two great one-liners from Anna and Marie, and hopefully more coming. π My designer is helping me spruce up the homepage. Hoping to do a full blast on Monday.
I am so thrilled that the official Bootcamp dates are confirmed but am so bummed that I cannot participate. I definitely want to find a way to workout and connect with others who plan to do something similar. I appreciate the offer to help past Bootcampers find creative ways to stay connected, Eugene. I know that I’m going to need your assistance.
Anna, we’re going to figure out something. This goes for others who’d like to stay engaged but can’t participate this next round.
Hi Eugene! Lauren and I have been in touch and we are going to be working out together in the East Bay. We are hoping to follow the schedule for the SF Bootcamp but will likely get together on Fridays. Still working out location and time but don’t anticipate any major obstacles for confirming a space. It’s going to be interesting π
Fantastic, @anna341bc! Thanks for letting me know, and so glad you and @lauren will be doing self-organized workouts. Would it be okay if I pointed others in your direction as well?
I’m totally open to that. @lauren want to weigh in?
Good morning everyone! Hope you had a wonderful weekend!
As some of you know, I put together a survey a few months back to try to better understand changemaker challenges. I finally gathered together the results (with a huge assist from Amy):
You can also read my blog post about it. Would love to hear your thoughts!
I’m revamping the website in preparation for a wider launch later next week. I’ve come up with some new draft language for the home page. If you’d like to read and offer feedback, I’ve shared the document with all of your Gmail accounts. Please feel free to insert comments or even change the text directly. I’ll incorporate the feedback and go live next Tuesday morning.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
I popped in here to post some reflections, saw your note and headed right over to the google doc. Left a few misc. comments.
Thanks so much, Amy! As usual, very helpful. And would still like to hear your reflections, too!
As I mentioned on Wednesday, I’ll be going around doing exit interviews with all of you over the next few weeks. I did the first two with Natalie and Renee on Wednesday morning before our last bootcamp. It was perhaps unfair, since that last session could have completely swayed their opinion one way or another. π
Nevertheless, here they are:

Looking forward to talking to Lauren, Anna, and Amy!
Thank you all again for a wonderful six weeks! I’m already missing all of you! Fortunately, I have plenty of followup work from this past session and prep work for the next!
I’m interrupting today’s regularly scheduled attempt at thought-provoking changemaker wisdom to announce that today is @natalie’s birthday! Wish her a happy birthday if you get the chance.
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Looking forward to seeing all of you on Wednesday, our last session of this bootcamp.
Happy Birthday Natalie!! It has been a real pleasure to get to know you a bit through Bootcamp. Hope you have a wonderful day!
Happy Happy Birthday Natalie. Hope you have a wonderful time celebrating π
It worked :-), Eugene. π
Thanks for the tip π
Have a wonderful birthday Natalie! Big hug!!
Thanks, everybody! I’m feeling the love. π
Happy birthday Natalie! i miss you very much!
Dana! Nice to hear from you! Are you going to happy hour tomorrow?
I hereby request a bootcamp devoted solely to difficult conversations.
I second that. I could use the practice to work through some stuff I’m currently dealing with.
Given @lauren’s comment above and the two requests here, I’ll be sure to devote some time next week to more difficult conversations practice.
Thank you all for another great workout today! These past three workouts in particular have really challenged my model, and I’ve learned a ton from watching you work and from your honest feedback. Looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts this week here in the water cooler as I prepare for our final workout together (unless you all decide to do it again)!
Natalie, looking forward to hearing how this afternoon went!
Building on @renee’s thoughts from last week, I had two goals for last week’s workouts:
1. Practice designing engagements
2. Practice group physics
I figured success would look like:
This goes back to my response to Renee below; I could have just told you both of the things above. And I did. But just hearing it doesn’t make the learning visceral.
Based on these metrics, how well do you think I did?
I think you hit goal number one but I don’t feel clear about number 2. Also, despite knowing goal 1 I don’t feel clear about what the alternatives really are and this is what I really want to know. I have a huge over-reliance on meetings and its actually a big issue in my work- people are way way over meeting-Ed
